Overview of Language, Education, and Experience
Here is a list of what we are looking for in terms of language, education and experience of the candidates:
- Language: Communicates clearly and confidently in English
- Education: Has NCEA Level 3 or equivalent experience in libraries or community roles
- Experience: Brings previous experience working with people of all ages in a service environment
Tasks and Responsibilities
As the Assistant Librarian – Outreach Services, your work will include:
- Supporting outreach services such as mobile library visits to schools, preschools, rest homes, and other community spaces
- Helping with Pinehaven Library branch services
- Assisting with our housebound customers
- Using our two mobile library vehicles (Pūrehurehu and Mangaroa – NZ’s first electric mobile library!)
- Participating in one-off community events and outreach programmes
- Building strong, friendly connections with customers and community groups
- Delivering services in a way that makes everyone feel welcome and supported
Required Skills and Capabilities
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- A warm, approachable personality and strong relationship skills
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Confidence using technology and library systems
- A calm, positive attitude when working with the public
- A clean Class 1 Driver’s Licence (essential)
- A passion for public libraries and their role in the community
