Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment for construction, maintenance, and operational projects
  • Perform excavations and trenching, including work inside closed landfills for landfill gas collection and leachate systems (a plus)
  • Maintain and inspect equipment regularly to ensure it is in good working order
  • Execute tasks such as sloping or benching excavations and reading cut and fill stakes for precise positioning
  • Communicate effectively with field crew members using hand signals or radios to ensure safe and accurate equipment operation
  • Observe and adhere strictly to all safety regulations and project protocols
  • Verify that precautions are taken to avoid conflicts with underground and above-ground utilities
  • Work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends as needed
  • Assist with any other duties assigned by the Superintendent

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience operating heavy equipment
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation to Oakland, CA
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER or 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher Certification
  • Knowledge of construction safety regulations and the ability to recognize hazards
  • Ability to read and interpret plans related to excavation, trenching, and grading
  • Experience with U.S.A. marks and checking grade elevations (using a laser is a plus)
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends when required

  • Proficient in operating heavy equipment safely and efficiently
  • Good coordination and attention to detail
  • Ability to lead and direct small crews (a plus)
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and hazard recognition
  • Ability to interpret site plans and grading instructions accurately
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible with work schedule
