Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment for construction, maintenance, and operational projects
- Perform excavations and trenching, including work inside closed landfills for landfill gas collection and leachate systems (a plus)
- Maintain and inspect equipment regularly to ensure it is in good working order
- Execute tasks such as sloping or benching excavations and reading cut and fill stakes for precise positioning
- Communicate effectively with field crew members using hand signals or radios to ensure safe and accurate equipment operation
- Observe and adhere strictly to all safety regulations and project protocols
- Verify that precautions are taken to avoid conflicts with underground and above-ground utilities
- Work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends as needed
- Assist with any other duties assigned by the Superintendent
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience operating heavy equipment
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation to Oakland, CA
- Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER or 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher Certification
- Knowledge of construction safety regulations and the ability to recognize hazards
- Ability to read and interpret plans related to excavation, trenching, and grading
- Experience with U.S.A. marks and checking grade elevations (using a laser is a plus)
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends when required
