KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Baker and Retail Assistant, you will:

  • Plan, prepare, and bake artisanal sourdough bread and related products to high quality standards.
  • Operate ovens, monitor baking times and temperatures, and maintain consistent product quality.
  • Manage bakery stock, supplies, and inventory efficiently and within budget.
  • Clean and maintain bakery equipment and workspace in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Plan baking quantities based on internal, wholesale, and shop orders.
  • Provide excellent customer service in the Farm Shop, including unpacking, sorting, picking, packing, and merchandising.
  • Support and engage Warrah participants with disability in bakery and retail activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and clear communication with the team.
  • Adhere to all Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards and perform manual handling as required.
  • Perform other duties as directed to ensure the smooth operation of the bakery and Farm Shop.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role involves:

  • Working in Warrah’s artisanal bakery and organic Farm Shop, part of a certified Biodynamic Farm.
  • Collaborating with a small, friendly team of staff, volunteers, and participants with disability.
  • Operating in a values-driven environment guided by the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner.
  • Balancing hands-on baking and customer service responsibilities.
  • Enjoying a peaceful bushland campus setting while contributing to a meaningful community initiative.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Some experience and genuine passion for baking sourdough bread (training provided to the right candidate).
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with a respectful, friendly approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Creative merchandising and visual presentation skills.
  • Good administrative and computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to use a cash register and basic stock control systems.
  • Physical fitness suitable for manual tasks and lifting.
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Current NSW C Class Driver’s Licence.
  • Empathy and understanding when working with individuals with disability.
  • Interest in or willingness to learn about biodynamic farming and Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy.
