Key Responsibilities
- Follow all health and safety procedures and workplace regulations.
- Study blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements.
- Select, clean, and prepare metal stock for fabrication.
- Cut metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame-cutting torches, or metal-cutting machines.
- Shape and bend metal sections and pipes using hand or machine tools, and by heating or hammering.
- Align components to be joined using appropriate measuring instruments and tools.
- Join metal sections through various welding techniques, bolting, or riveting.
- Inspect and test welds for accuracy, width, and penetration.
- Finish fabricated products by cleaning, polishing, filing, and treating surfaces.
- Smooth and clean welds by grinding, filing, or chiseling to ensure a professional finish.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in metal fabrication and welding.
- Proven background in structural steel fabrication.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and fabrication methods.
- Commitment to quality workmanship and attention to detail.
- Team-oriented mindset with good communication skills.
- Must have New Zealand residency or valid work eligibility.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficient in MIG, TIG, and ARC welding techniques.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
- Knowledge of metal properties and fabrication processes.
- Strong focus on safety and workplace discipline.
