Key Responsibilities

  • Follow all health and safety procedures and workplace regulations.
  • Study blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements.
  • Select, clean, and prepare metal stock for fabrication.
  • Cut metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame-cutting torches, or metal-cutting machines.
  • Shape and bend metal sections and pipes using hand or machine tools, and by heating or hammering.
  • Align components to be joined using appropriate measuring instruments and tools.
  • Join metal sections through various welding techniques, bolting, or riveting.
  • Inspect and test welds for accuracy, width, and penetration.
  • Finish fabricated products by cleaning, polishing, filing, and treating surfaces.
  • Smooth and clean welds by grinding, filing, or chiseling to ensure a professional finish.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in metal fabrication and welding.
  • Proven background in structural steel fabrication.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and fabrication methods.
  • Commitment to quality workmanship and attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented mindset with good communication skills.
  • Must have New Zealand residency or valid work eligibility.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in MIG, TIG, and ARC welding techniques.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
  • Knowledge of metal properties and fabrication processes.
  • Strong focus on safety and workplace discipline.
